Super Trans Tasman Day Four Results

Men’s 50’s

Australia has claimed its first Masters’ division on day four of the 2013 Super Trans Tasman Series, with the Men’s 50’s winning their second game and taking the series with one game remaining.

Nothing separated the teams in the opening exchanges, with both teams unable to score for the first six minutes of the game.

Tim Kitchingham was the first to score for Australia and by the midway mark of the first half Australia held a 2-0 lead.

New Zealand hit back shortly after before Kitchingham scored his second for the game to take a 3-1 lead.

The Kiwis then scored another touchdown through Stephen Huggins before two quick touchdowns within five minutes remaining in the half gave Australia some breathing space, taking a 5-2 lead into the half-time break.

Australia then turned it up a notch after the half-time break, scoring seven touchdowns to one to take a convincing 12-3 win and an unbeatable series lead, 2-0 with one game to play.

Men’s 40’s

Australia has claimed its second division on day two of the Masters category at the 2012 Super Trans Tasman, winning the second game of the series 6-2.

Australia got out to a strong start, scoring the first two touchdowns through in the opening 10 minutes of the game to take a 2-0 lead.

Pete Walters hit back for New Zealand to reduce the deficit to one, and another touchdown a piece saw the sides at 3-2.

Australia extended its lead to two with three minutes remaining to take a two touchdown lead into the break, 4-2.

It was 5-2 five minutes into the second half when Robert Sinclair-Smith scored for Australia and Robin Kildare put the game beyond doubt with five minutes remaining when he scored, with Australia taking a four touchdown win, 6-2 to take game two and the series 2-0.

Men’s 30’s

Australia has levelled up the Men’s 30’s division at one game-a-piece after a two touchdown win in game two of the series today.

The 11-9 win pushes the series into an all-important decider on Saturday, which if the two previous games are anything to go by will be an exciting spectacle.

The teams went touchdown for touchdown in the early stages of the game before Australia got out to a 6-3 lead with five minutes remaining in the half.

Two touchdowns to New Zealand in the final minutes of the half saw the home side come back to within one at the break, 6-5.

Australia was able to keep its advantage in the second half, with New Zealand unable to get to within one touchdown of Australia to set up a cracking showdown in game three which will decide the series and the fate of the Masters Trans Tasman Trophy as well.

Women’s 30’s

We had two exciting games in the afternoon of day four at the Touch Trans Tasman Test-Series. With both the Over 30 Women and Over 30 Mixed sides leading their three match series 1-0, they looked to win the grade with a second win.

Australia got off to a great start in the Women’s 30’s game two, and managed to take a 3-1 lead into the half-time break.

After sustained pressure, the impressive Aussie defence finally gave way with Jamie Te Pania diving underneath some tired Australian legs.

The 3-3 scoreline eventually lead to a drop off. McKay went straight through the middle and fed Chantal Baker for the winning touchdown in the far corner.

Senior Mixed

The second Senior Mixed match of the series was fast and physical from the outset with Australia going into halftime with a slight 3-2 lead.

New Zealand looked to be in trouble after letting in a soft touchdown at the beginning of the second half. Then a comeback was on the cards after Jason Puddle set up two quick touchdowns to level the scores. The game looked to be won when the two Steve’s, Toki and Wall, combined to put the Kiwis ahead 5-4 before Australia hit back to level up the match up at 5-5.

With the match looking like drop-off material, the Australians couldn’t handle Puddle who had too much gas for third time, setting up the final touchdown of the match, with the New Zealand Senior Mixed winning the series 2-0 with a 6-5 game two victory.
